Carnegie-Stout Public Library in Dubuque will show the movie "Casualties of War" on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Auditorium. Admission and snacks are free, and open discussion will be encouraged after the show.
Starring Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn and directed by Brian De Palma, "Casualties of War" (1989) is a drama about a young army private in Vietnam who refuses to let his fellow soldiers skirt respon...sibility for the rape and murder of a civilian. The movie is about two hours long and is rated R.
The screenplay for "Casualties of War" was written by David Rabe, who was born and raised in Dubuque and graduated from Loras College in 1962. Hailed as "one of America’s greatest living playwrights," David Rabe is best known for several acclaimed plays based on his experiences as a draftee assigned to a hospital-support unit in Vietnam. His latest work, "Girl by the Road at Night: A Novel of Vietnam," was published on June 1, 2010.
